Spotted Hyena Crocuta crocuta native to Sub-Saharan Africa, also known as the 'Laughing Hyena' due to their unique and recognisable vocalisations. Spotted Hyenas are highly social and have the largest group sizes of the Carnivora.
​
Although classified as of Least Concern by the IUCN due to their large number, the Spotted Hyena population is suffering decline outside of protected areas due to loss of habitat as well as increasing threat from poaching.
